Glossary Item Box

Attaching a user to an appropriate user role prevents the user to access, modify or in anyhow abuse content and system itself. Each role has specific purpose in MX-Client. With appropriate role user cannot work outside the boundaries defined for him.

Existing user accounts are located in the list in section Existing User Accounts. Accounts are grouped by the first character of its name. By default groups for the first three letters are displayed. To access more groups use configuration buttons at the bottom of the list.

To view the information about a specific account, select it in the list. Personal information is displayed in the section Personal Information on the right part of the screen. To see the meaning and purpose of the information displayed see chapter User Account Information.

Roles

Roles are listed in the bottom right part of the screen in section Roles. The list on the left shows all and not yet attached roles for currently selected user. To attach a role to the user just select the role in the list. Role is added to the end of the list on the right.

By default several different types of user roles exists. Each enables the user to access a certain section, content or functionality of application in MX-Client and MX-Client system features.

Role Description
Admin User with Admin user role has access to all sections and functionalities in MX-Client. It can change culture settings for its own account. It has access to Control Panel and all of its features. Short cut menus on grids are also available to the user. User can registry new libraries and manage connectivity channels. It can manage complete personalization, security and localization on all segments in the MX-Client.
Advanced User Advanced User User with Advanced User user role has permission to change data in the application. It can change culture settings for its own account. It does not have access to Control Panel. Short cut menus on grids are all available to the user. User can manage personalization of user interfaces, grids and reports.
Audit Trail User with Audit Trail user role has permission to change data in the application. It can change culture settings for its own account. It does not have access to Control Panel. User can see the audit trail information for selected record.
Guest User with Guest user role does not have permission the change any data in the application. Everything is read only. It can change culture settings for its own account. It also does not have access to Control Panel. Short cut menus on grids are also unavailable to the user.
Power USer User with Power User user role has permission to change data in the application. It can change culture settings for its own account. It does not have access to Control Panel. Short cut menus on grids are also unavailable to the user.
Security User with Security user role has permission to change data in the application. It can change culture settings for its own account. It does not have access to Control Panel. User can manage security model and localization for navigation. Short cut menus on grids contain only security option; therefore user can manage security and data security.

It is possible for one user account to have more than one user role attached. In this case it always has access to a certain section or functionality if he has the role required for the action.

Custom Roles

It is also possible to develop your own custom application role. Custom role is developed with MXApplicationRole component in design time. Therefore it is even further possible to expand the security model for an Mx application.

To add Advanced User user role

  1. Run MX-Client.
  2. Login using user account with administrative privileges.
  3. Click application menu button and select Control Panel.
  4. In section User Accounts click Roles Membership.
  5. Select the desired user account from the Existing User Accounts list.
  6. In Roles section click Advanced User role in the left list.

Advanced User role is added to the end of the list on the right. Next time user account is logged in the application it will have Advanced User privileges.
